BIO
Franco-Guinean percussionist, Muriel Kouyaté is one of Europe’s leading female djembe performers.
Trained by Grand Master Mamady Keita at TamTam Mandingue Djembe Academy, she toured Europe with his legendary group Sewa Kan and was invited to lead workshops in Mexico and Singapore.
Currently lead percussionist with N'Faly Kouyaté, she has toured worldwide across Europe, North America, Asia and Africa. With N’Faly’s Afro Electro Pop project and the world music group Dunyakan, she powered stages like WOMAD, Couleur Café, Francofolies de Spa, Nuits d’Afrique Montreal, and Penang World Music Festival. Her hybrid set blends djembe, traditional Mandingue percussion and electronic pads, turning rhythm into a full-body live trance.
She has recorded on 6 albums with N'Faly Kouyaté and recently contributed to the new album by Afrocelt Sound System. Her past projects include Kora Strings, blending African and classical instruments and Dunyakan Band.
Professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, Muriel has been sharing Mandingue culture worldwide for over 20 years.
